Iran's Nahid-2 Communications Satellite Successfully Launched

25 July 2025

In a significant stride for Iran's space program, the Nahid-2 telecommunications satellite was successfully launched into orbit today, Friday, July 25, 2025, at 11:29 AM local time. The launch marks a crucial operational test for a suite of domestically developed space technologies.

According to the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, the Nahid-2 satellite was launched via a Soyuz rocket from the Vostochny Cosmodrome in Russia.

Weighing approximately 110 kilograms, Nahid-2 was designed and manufactured by Iranian space industry researchers and specialists at the Space Organization and Space Research Institute of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, in collaboration with a network of knowledge-based companies.

This mission represents a key step for Iran in the development of satellite communications, the formation of telecommunications constellations in Low Earth Orbit (LEO), and future planning for satellites in Geostationary Orbit (GEO).

The deployment of the satellite will facilitate the first operational testing of indigenous Ku-band communications technology in orbit. Furthermore, a range of advanced space technologies, including three-axis attitude control, two-way communications in various frequency bands, data management, and power distribution, will be evaluated.

The launch, executed in collaboration with international partners via the Soyuz rocket, was conducted in accordance with required orbital specifications and operational requirements. Plans are already underway to launch a second Nahid-2 satellite model using the domestically produced Simorgh satellite carrier in the near future.
